Hughes comes under criticism for becoming 'Government spinner'

Simon Hughes has come under criticism from a leading political campaigner after Mr Hughes accepted the role of advocate to higher education from the Coalition Government. Simon Hughes who abstained on the vote against tuition fees is seen as a hypocrite who has now just sneaked back into the pocket of the Government.

Irfan Ahmed, who believes Simon Hughes should have voted against the rise in fees and shouldn't have abstained believes Mr Hughes has sold out the left-wing Lib Dems who regarded Mr Hughes as being a representative of the left in the hierarchy.

Commenting on Mr Hughes' appointment, Irfan Ahmed said:
"First Nick Clegg become a Tory-like character and now Mr Hughes has followed in his foot-steps.

"I would have thought Simon would have had the courtesy to not take on the role of spinner to the Coalition Government and he would have instead attacked the Coalition for their increase in tuition fees to £9,000."

"Simon Hughes is no longer the voice of the left within the Lib Dems, and like other Lib Dem MPs is just a Tory puppet."
