Baroness Warsi is a lone voice says Irfan Ahmed

Sayeeda Warsi has come under criticism from a Liberal Democrat campaigner after claiming Islam has become a dinner-table discussion. She showed concern at the way British people describe Muslims as being moderate or extremist.

Irfan Ahmed, who classes himself as a moderate Muslim has called for her to rethink her comments as he believes the current classing of Muslims is exactly the sort the community needs in the UK.

Mr Ahmed has said he doesn't want to be branded as a Muslim in the same category as the minority who have extremist views and would rather be known as a moderate Muslim than an extremist Muslim.

Calling for Sayeeda Warsi to retract her comments, Irfan Ahmed said:

"We need to name and shame the extremist groups that operate within any religion, be it Islam or Christianity.

"I believe it is excellent that these extremist groups are being branded extremist whilst the rest of us peace loving Muslims are being branded moderate Muslims by the British media."

Irfan called for the media to not give these extremist groups a platform and asked news editors to not brand these extremist organisations and individuals as Muslims.

"Anyone who holds extremist or terrorist views isn't a Muslim", said Irfan Ahmed as he referred to a fatwa by Dr Tahir Ul Qadri on the issue of terrorism and Islam.
