Irfan Ahmed condemns rebel arms in Libya

Irfan Ahmed has called for the international community to not move towards arming rebels in their bid to secure a democratic state in Libya. Irfan Ahmed believes the civil war in Libya will turn into an Iraq type war if the international community starts arming rebels.

Irfan Ahmed would like to highlight how the US have in the past armed rebels in Afghanistan when the Taliban took on Russia and believes it led to the birth of terrorism and Bin Laden. Irfan warned that arming Libyan rebels could lead to another Bin Laden being born in Libya and the war on terrorism taking a huge hit because of this.

Irfan Ahmed said:

"The international community would be stupid to arm the rebels in Libya, unless you want another Bin Laden to be born can I please suggest we do not arm Libya. It is clear everyone wants Gaddafi to go, especially after the way he has treated his people but arming rebels to fight Gaddafi is both a disgrace and in my view one of the most silliest things a western country can do at this time.

"The west must portray the image that it is helping to stop the violence in Libya, not take out leaders. The extremists will be given ammunition and motives by Britain if the country was to start arming the rebels as Al-Qaeeda and other organisations would then be able to turn against Britain for leading the way in the destruction that might come when rebels are armed with weaponry from Britain."

Irfan hoped Mr Cameron and Clegg would take this issue into account when deciding how they were to handle the developments in Libya.
