At a recent event someone raised the issue of the change in the role of students in politics. Before students were associated with raving, protesting and squatting people who wanted to get their voices heard but that is no longer the case.
Students can no longer rave, protest or squat because the law just doesn't allow them to. If they want to protest they need to ask the Police for permission which also includes a video camera recording the protest.
Clearly students have been deprived of the politics they used to take part in and that's why I think the youth are taking to the Internet and campaigning for main stream candidates to make up for the lose of other youth activities.
Pendle's MP Gordon Prentice once told young people (including me) that he used to enjoy travelling and protesting whilst a student.
This has brought me to the conclusion that if a young person (say me) says something wrong or not what a mature blogger wants to hear they bang on about it. Clearly students should be allowed to do what they have done in the past e.g. protesting, raving and squatting.
I
liked the squatting of Mr and Mrs Keen's tax payer billed home, maybe the youth of today need to do that more?
